SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), in collaboration with the World Community Service Centre (WCSC), has launched the Village Service Programme (VSP) at Anjur Village, one of the villages adopted by SRMIST under the Government of India’s flagship Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) initiative. The programme marks a significant step towards fostering sustainable rural development through skill enhancement, health awareness, and value-based community engagement.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. C. Muthamizhchelvan, Vice-Chancellor, SRMIST, highlighted the importance of equipping rural youth and students with specialised, interest-driven skills that can create sustainable livelihood opportunities and strengthen the socio-economic fabric of the village.
Mr. Senthur Paari, President, Exnora International Foundation, underscored the role of community participation, environmental responsibility, and collective action in achieving long-term village development. Mr. Muruganatham, Director, WCSC–VSP, presented an overview of the Village Service Programme, outlining its focus on holistic development through health awareness initiatives, value-based living, and continuous community support.
Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director (CL) and Nodal Officer – Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, SRMIST, noted that the institution has adopted 12 villages under the UBA scheme and has been consistently implementing initiatives across education, healthcare, skill development, and social welfare. He reaffirmed SRMIST’s commitment to the sustained development of Anjur Village through structured institutional engagement.
With the support of WCSC, a Village Service Centre has been established in Anjur Village based on the ideals of Vethathiri Maharishi, offering free Simplified Kundalini Yoga (SKY) training and value-based programmes over a seven-month period. As part of livelihood support, SRMIST has also sponsored tailoring training by providing five tailoring machines, along with dedicated male and female trainers residing in the village to ensure inclusive and continuous training.
The programme also featured a vibrant folk art performance by Mugilkalaikuzhu, Erode, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from village panchayat representatives, local residents, SRMIST faculty members, students, WCSC representatives, and members of the media.
Through this initiative, SRMIST and WCSC aim to transform Anjur Village into a Healthy, Skilled, and Peaceful Village, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to meaningful rural transformation through sustained community partnerships.
