Madurai, 30th January 2026: Aathi Eye hospital has unveiled South Tamil Nadu’s first fully equipped Mobile Eye Clinic for rural communities. This facility offers on-the-go consultations and Eye screenings backed by an experienced medical team. The Mobile Eye Clinic was inaugurated by Hon. Mr. P. Moorthy, Government of Tamil Nadu- Minister of Commercial.
The facility was launched in the presence of Dr. L. Arul Sundaresh Kumar, Dean, Madurai Medical College and G. Karikolraj Nadar, General Secretary, Nadar Mahajana Sangam.
The unit provides a wide spectrum of eye care such as eye examination, computerized eye checkup, refraction , services such vision examination, direct and indirect ophthalmoscopes, optical dispensing, latest spectacles and frames and quality lenses along with patient counselling and medicines personalized eye care recommendations on how to maintain and improve your eye health based on specific needs. Screening of the patients for cataract, glaucoma , myopia and diabetic retinopathy and other eye related problems.
The unit enables end-to-end patient care, including registration, consultation, diagnostics, referrals, and follow-ups, ensuring that individuals receive quality eye care without the burden of travel or long waiting times giving access to advanced diagnostic technology to ensure accurate and thorough eye assessment.
The occasion also marks the 7th anniversary of the hospital and to commemorate its anniversary, Aathi Eye Hospital is offering free comprehensive eye examinations by experienced eye specialists, to provide affordable cataract treatment and high-quality surgical eye care to individuals and communities with limited financial resources, ensuring accessible, safe, and compassionate eye care for every person, irrespective of age.
Speaking at the launch Hon. Mr. P. Moorthy said, “Mobile eye care facility marks a significant step forward in making quality vision care inclusive and accessible. It is no longer a convenience but a necessity to bridge the gap in healthcare access for those who face economic barriers. I also commend Aathi Hospital’s entire team for their consistent efforts in delivering quality services to rural communities, ensuring equitable eye care for all. I also appreciate their effort to have introduced South Tamil Nadu’s First Mobile Eye Clinic and dedicate it to the people of South Tamil Nadu.”
In his comments Mr. Thirumalaikumar, Chairman, Aathi Eye Hospital said, “In many rural communities, regular eye exams are a rare luxury people only seek care when symptoms become obvious. But conditions like cataract affect 90% of the population and glaucoma, a particularly alarming concern is that 85 to 90% of glaucoma cases in the country remain undiagnosed and early diabetic retinopathy often progress silently, without warning. Coupled with limited awareness where vision problems are mistaken for normal ageing and scarce access to trained eye care professionals and screening facilities, a significant number of adults live with undiagnosed, preventable eye disease.”
