SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management–Thanjavur (NIFTEM-T) to strengthen academic and research collaboration in Food Science and Technology.

The partnership is expected to enable close cooperation between SRMIST and NIFTEM-T through academic engagement, research collaboration, and technology-driven initiatives in the food sector. The collaboration draws on the complementary strengths of both institutions and aims to create platforms for shared learning, innovation, and capacity building.

The agreement was formally signed by Dr. S. Ponnusamy, Registrar, SRMIST, and Prof. V. Palanimuthu, Director, NIFTEM-T, in the presence of senior academic and administrative representatives from both institutions.

The MoU covers collaboration in key areas including Food Science, Food Nutrition, and Food Technology. As part of the agreement, both institutions will facilitate student, faculty, and staff exchange programmes and internships, undertake joint research projects, and promote knowledge exchange through conferences, workshops, seminars, and other academic activities.

Commenting on the collaboration, Dr. S. Ponnusamy, Registrar, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, said, “This partnership with NIFTEM–Thanjavur underscores SRMIST’s focus on strengthening collaborations with leading national institutions. By working together in critical areas of food science and technology, we seek to support impactful research, skill development, and innovation that can contribute to the evolving needs of the food processing and nutrition sectors.”

The MoU marks an important step towards strengthening long-term academic and research linkages between SRMIST and NIFTEM-T, contributing to innovation, skill development, and national priorities in food processing, food quality, and nutrition.
