Vidya Sudha, a centre for children with special needs recognised by the Directorate for the Welfare of Differently Abled, Government of Tamil Nadu was established as a social initiative of the Sri Ramachandra Educational and Health Trust. It is uniquely designed as an early intervention centre that provides comprehensive services for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The centre emphasizes holistic development, enabling children to achieve greater independece and integrate into society.
Today, Vidya Sudha organised Annual Sports Meet, “Thrive 2026,” at the Sri Ramachandra Learning Center for Children with Special Needs. The event naims to provide a platform for children with disabilities to showcase their talents, build confidence, and promote inclusivity and diversity. It will also encourage teamwork, social interaction, and emotional well-being. 100 children along with their parents will participate in the event. The celebrations included tree planting, sports meet, inauguration of alumni association.
The event was inaugurated by Tmt. S. Madumathi, Secretary to Government, Department of Welfare of Differently Abled Persons, Government of Tamil Nadu. Speaking on the occasion, she said that the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act provides 5% reservation in schools and colleges for differently abled students and 4% reservation in jobs. She urged them to make use of these opportunities and overcome their challenges. She also appreciated the efforts of special educators and emphasized that parents should identify their children’s unique talents and encourage them to succeed.
Mr. S. Santhanam, Actor and Film Producer graced the occasion as the special guest. He appreciated SRIHER’s 22 years of committed service in offering free treatment, education, and training to special children, highlighting its strong social mission.
Chancellor Mr. V.R. Venkataachalam and Ms. Samyuktha Venkataachalam, Trustee, Sri Ramachandra Educational and Health Trust. Thiru. K. Prabhakaran, General Secretary and Area Director, Special Olympics Bharat – Tamil Nadu graced the occasion along with Vice Chancellor Dr. Uma Sekar, Registrar Dr. S. Senthil Kumar, Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Mahesh Vakamudi, and Dr. A. Arun Aloysius Magesh, Administrator, Vidya Sudha.
The centre offers multidisciplinary rehabilitation services under one roof, affiliated with a medical university caters to children below the age of eight, addressing a wide range of conditions including autism, developmental delays, cerebral palsy, down syndrome and other cognitive challenges. The team comprising special educators, occupational therapists, speech therapists, physiotherapists, clinical psychologists, optometrists, nutritionists, and medical professionals provides integrated care to the children with poor economic background.
