Moscow, Russia’s leading tourist city, is gearing up to celebrate World Tourism Day on September 27. Each year, the Russian capital enhances its tourism infrastructure, improves services, and strengthens its tourism potential. In just the first quarter of 2025, about 18,000 Indian travelers visited Moscow — 1,5 times more than during the same period last year.
Moscow has become an increasingly attractive destination for Indian travelers, solidifying this position with each passing tourist season. This trend is significantly supported by convenient direct air connectivity, with daily flights operating on the Delhi-Moscow route.
The longstanding friendship between Russia and India manifests itself through the warm hospitality extended towards Indian visitors in Moscow. This summer saw several large-scale events celebrating India take place across the city. One of the major events was the Festival of India, Bharat Utsav, held on Manezhnaya Square as part of the city’s “Summer in Moscow” project. Visitors had the opportunity to learn yoga basics and Hindi language lessons, discover Kathak and Odissi dance forms, delve into Bollywood culture, sample authentic Indian cuisine, and capture memorable moments in vibrant photo zones. Additionally, guests tried wearing saris, applied henna designs, and explored traditional Indian artistry.
The annual Yoga Day organized by the Indian Embassy in Moscow continues to draw significant participation. In 2025, the celebration took place at Michurinsky Garden VDNH, bringing together more than 15 yoga schools, invited by the Embassy of India, and attracting over 7,000 attendees. Yoga classes are also integrated into Moscow’s Sports Weekends program, offered in parks and public venues throughout the city. Furthermore, Moscow hosted its second International Meditation Day in one of its urban parks during 2025.
Another event, the tenth anniversary edition of the “India Day” festival at the landscaped “Dream Island” Park drew record-breaking crowds of 2.7 million people. Performances by artists, traditional Indian markets, colorful Holi celebrations, and culinary festivities attracted both locals and tourists alike.
The influence of India is not only evident in historical landmarks but also in numerous restaurants and cafes offering traditional Indian and vegetarian cuisine scattered throughout Moscow. From luxurious fine-dining establishments serving authentic dishes to casual food stalls within bustling food markets found all over the city, Moscow boasts dozens of such dining options.
According to data provided by the Moscow City Tourism Committee, nearly half of international visitors who came to the capital last year expressed their desire to return again. Among distant overseas countries, India ranks second in terms of tourist flow to Moscow, and the Russian capital remains ever-welcoming to guests from Bharat.
