Chennai, September 24, 2025: MGM Cancer Institute transformed World Rose Day into a moving celebration of life, resilience, and the unshakable power of the human spirit. The evening radiated with music, laughter, and inspiration, reminding every patient and survivor that cancer does not define them their courage does.
Over 100 survivors from playful children to determined adults came together not merely as patients, but as warriors who have overcome immense adversity. Their presence turned the event into a vibrant expression of strength, freedom, and joy. Each smile, each story, each performance was a testament that cancer is not an end, but the beginning of a new dawn.
The celebration came alive with the soulful voice of Ms. Pop Shalini and the warmth and encouragement of beloved actors Mr. Karunakaran, Mr. J. Livingston, Mr. Ramesh Khanna, and Mr. Darshan. Cultural performances of music and dance filled the evening with energy and light, while motivational talks by cancer warriors stirred hearts, leaving the audience inspired by their extraordinary journeys. Together, the community created a safe haven of love, support, and unity — a reminder that no one fights cancer alone.
In an emotional address, Dr. M. A. Raja, Director and Senior Consultant of Medical Oncology at MGM Cancer Institute, said, “World Rose Day is far more than a commemoration. It is a promise of hope, compassion, and togetherness. It is a day to embrace every patient with love, applaud every survivor’s resilience, and humbly appreciate every caregiver’s sacrifice. Cancer is a battle involving not just the patient, but the entire family. At MGM, we walk every step of this journey with our patients and their families ensuring they are never alone.”
Dr. Raja, along with Dr. Deenadayalan, Head of Pediatric Oncology and BMT, also shed light on the challenge that India faces, with approximately 75,000 children and adolescents diagnosed with cancer every year. Yet, their message carried optimism: thanks to breakthroughs in targeted therapies, immunotherapy, and precision chemotherapy, many cancers today are not just treatable — they are curable. “With timely diagnosis and comprehensive care, lives are not only saved but enriched, proving that survival can give way to thriving,” they emphasized.
As the evening drew to a close, the celebration left behind a powerful imprint: that while cancer may leave scars, it can never dim the light of the human spirit.
